Photos were taken with Fujifilm Finepix F31fd.

After dinner, Mao Mao and her husband brought us to this ulu place in Tiong Bahru for coffee. Her husband said the coffee was very nice and Mao Mao called it “artisan coffee”. It was located in a shophouse and the front part was air-con while the back was open air. We had to sit in the back because the front was already filled with people.

I had a cafe latte ($5) which was nice and smooth. I’m not much of a coffee drinker but I thought this was the best coffee I had drank in a while.

All the coffee had different coffee art. I must say their baristas were highly skilled.

Mao Mao’s husband said this was the best tau sar bao in Singapore. It was served warm and the skin was soft. The red bean paste was quite solid and not too sweet. But at $2.50 per bun, it felt expensive.

Now that we were home, it’s time to take a look at the loot.

We bought a lot of facewash. Those standing up were what my relatives requested us to buy. They loved this brand so much that they went to order online when they couldn’t get it locally. Those lying on the table were shared by brother and me. There were so many flavors so we just decide to buy all of them. We haven’t start using them yet.

A close up of the brand that my relatives like.

These are the stuff that my whole family bought. They were mostly snacks and about half would be given away to friends and colleagues.

Different flavors of Kit Kat

There were many unique flavors of Kit Kat available in Japan. Brother and I just bought whatever we saw. All the Kit Kats came in beautiful boxes. The Japanese really know how to package their products.

Top to bottom: Wasabi, Kobe pudding, miso and roasted tea

Top to bottom: Wasabi, Kobe pudding, miso and roasted tea

The Kit Kat were not kept in the fridge so they became a bit melted in the local temperature.

Despite the name, this Wasabi Kit Kat doesn’t taste weird. It was mostly white chocolate with a tinge of wasabi at the end. The wasabi flavor was very mild although noticeable.

The Kobe Pudding Kit Kat felt a bit too sweet. I’m not sure if it had the taste of Kobe pudding as I do not know what a real Kobe pudding taste like.

The Miso Kit Kat was about the same color as the Kobe Pudding Kit Kat but they tasted very different. The miso in this Kit Kat sort of neutralized the sweetness of the white chocolate. It doesn’t taste too weird and there was just a mild salty aftertaste.

I think most people would like this Roasted Tea Kit Kat. There was a nice, light flavor of the tea.

I wasn’t feeling well and I knew I shouldn’t eat this. But I did. I ate a whole big packet of Super Ring and a bowl of vanilla ice-cream. I know that there is a possibility that I will feel sicker after eating them but I figured that I might as well get it over and done with. If I get sicker, then I will get better. Which is what happened.

Pooh Bear and I decided to try the tea at Bread ‘n’ Butter Box after a colleague said that their tea was nice, with a somewhat smoky flavor. We also ordered a kaya toast set to share. The tea and kaya toast were nice. The bread was like the one at Ya Kun but it was thicker. I like that they were generous and put a thick slab of butter inside the toast. What I didn’t like was that the cups tend to be a little sticky, even the takeaway cups were the same. It makes me feel like washing my hands after touching the cups.
