After cycling we decided to just have lunch in the east. We originally wanted to go to Tamon Japanese Restuarant but unfortunately it was closed for lunch. So we ate at Peranakan Inn & Lounge which was a few steps away. It was a simple place, nothing fancy. Food was not bad. I’ve read complaints online that the staff were rude but we were nicely treated. We took a while to decide on the dishes. Sayang and I do not know much about peranakan dishes so we let KKH and TK, who had ate here before, decide.

More on the food after the jump

Sambal sotong

The sambal sotong was was covered in sambal and looked spicy. But when I took a bite, I discovered that it was not spicy so I was able to enjoy the soft tender squid without having to drink lots of water.

Nyonya chup chio

We also ordered some mixed vegetables which were cooked in a claypot. The vegetables were cooked until very soft and all the seasoning had gone into them.

Otah

Sayang wanted to try the otah so we ordered a plate. The otah came still wrapped in banana leaves so this is what it looked like after we unwrapped them and dumped them onto the plate. I’m not a big fan of otah so I can’t really tell whether the otah is good or not. All I like is that it tasted pretty tasty and goes well with plain rice. It was not very spicy and the rest seemed to enjoy it as well.

Pig stomach soup

The pig stomach soup was very peppery, which could be a good or bad thing depending on how peppery you liked your soups. The pig stomach was well-cleaned and wasn’t smelly. Of course the peppery soup also helped to mask any unsavoury tastes or smells.

Assam babi

This dish was the last to arrive and it was my favourite dish. The use of assam gave a sourish overtone to the dish. The meat used was a bit fatty but the sourness of the assam cuts through the fattiness and so it did not have a oily aftertaste.
