I didn’t bring a camera so all the photos in this post were taken with HTC Wildfire.

Mao Mao wanted to eat ramen so despite the rain, we trekked to Gallery Hotel. When we reached there, we found the ramen shop closed. Mao Mao was so upset that she turned around and screamed at me in frustration. I think the disappointment hit her pretty hard because she didn’t feel like eating ramen anymore even though there were other ramen restaurants in the area. We ended up at Aburiya for dinner.

We ordered Set A which cost $75. We had eaten at Aburiya before and this time we found that the portions seemed to be smaller but luckily quality was still more or less okay.

We were served the salad and kimchi first. The salad was a simple one, just lettuce, onions and some seasame oil dressing. Maybe I was hungry because the salad tasted good at first. But after I ate the rest of the dishes, the salad didn’t taste that nice anymore. I don’t like kimchi so Mao Mao had the whole plate to herself.

We grilled the mushrooms which were drizzled with a sweetish kind of sauce. They were fresh and tasty.

Set A came with 3 cuts of beef. The side skirt was sprinkled with salt and pepper and was the most chewy.

The tenderloin was thick and tasty. We asked for it to be marinated with tare sauce.

This was my favorite. It was full of flavor and tender and juicy because of all the marbled fats. It was sprinkled with just salt and pepper.

We had a bowl of beef stew each. All the meat and vegetables were cooked until very soft. Both of us liked it even though it was a little on the sweetish side.

Together with two other friends, we were for a manga exhibition at the Japanese Creative Center. It was a white colonial-looking house located near Tanglin. I didn’t know there is such a quiet area so near Orchard Road. The manga exhibition wasn’t big so we finished it fairly fast. I had stopped reading manga for a long time and did not bother to follow what was new on the manga scene. So I saw quite a few books which were all new to me. It felt a bit nogastic in a way, revisiting what used to be familiar.

After the exhibition, we went for lunch at Sun with Moon Japanese Dining & Cafe at Wheelock Place. I had a hamburg steak set with fries, prawns, salad, miso soup and rice ($21.80).

I don’t really like hamburg steak so it was strange that I ordered it. To my surprise, I rather enjoyed the meal. I ate it with the rice and the combination seemed to make the hamburg steak tasted good. Maybe I was just hungry. After all, we had lunch rather late. I ate the fries alone as I thought it was weird to eat them with rice.
