After the wedding…

Games Convention Asia

After Mr Tuna’s wedding, I met Bell and we went to the Games Convention Asia at Suntec. It was quite a small convention and looks somewhat sad as that is a big empty space at the back, as if they couldn’t fill up the exhibition hall. The EA booth made the most impression as it showcased a few good-looking games that are currently in development. Bell and I checked out that games and added them to a list games we want to buy after we finally get a Playstation 3.

Auction at Games Convention Asia

There was also an auction going on and people were bidding for rare items found in an online game. The proceeds will be given to charity but it was still amazing that people are willing to fork out that much money to pay for a virtual item. We lingered on for a while, checking out all the games and then left.

New York Cheesecake

Monday, June 15th, 2009

During lunch, my colleague mentioned that she bought Bakerzin’s New York Cheesecake. She said it was very nice and it was only promotion until the end of the month. I was tempted and stopped by the Bakerzin outlet at Vivocity on the way home. I recently declined going for a performance and thus saved myself some money. I figured that I could afford to splurge myself a little. I bought a small New York Cheesecake so that my family could eat it as well. I was so excited about my purchase that I ate a slice before I even ate dinner! It was very nice. It was soft, creamy and light, unlike some cheesecakes which were heavy. It almost felt like it just melted away in the mouth. Ah, I’m quite glad that I went to buy it.

Chocolate chunks pancakes

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

It all started with an episode of Food Paradise featuring breakfasts. It reminded me of the chocolate chip pancake I ate months ago and I felt like eating it again. But at restaurant prices, the pancake is not cheap so I decided to make my own to satisfy my craving.

Pancakes

I bought a pancake mix and a bar of cooking chocolate. Couldn’t find hershey’s chocolate chips so bought a bar of chocolate instead. I used half the pancake mix and made some chocolate chunk pancakes on Saturday. As Si Hamil said, it’s really quite idiot proof. It’s just pancakes with chocolate chips. The pancakes were not good-looking but they tasted fine. I ate them with some mascarpone mixed with a bit of honey.

Pancakes

Today I made my second batch of chocolate chunks pancakes. I cut the chocolate into smaller pieces this time. The pancakes looked nicer and the last pancake I made was the best-looking pancake I had to date. It was just a plain pancake as I had ran out of chocolate by then.

Pancakes

I learnt a few things from this, like don’t eat food hot from the pan. I found out that I’m not a big fan of pancakes, I just like chocolate a lot. And never, never attempt to do any cooking when my mother is around.

I will be bringing some to office so the rest can have a taste. I wonder if they will still taste nice when they are cold and whether they can stand reheating?

Baking the English muffin (part 2)

Saturday, April 4th, 2009

I used another recipe for English muffins. My mother and I followed it and managed to bake some English muffins. The problem with cooking with my mother is that after a while everything I did was either wrong or not as good as she could do. Then she would take over the whole process because she could do it better and faster. So I often avoid doing anything in the kitchen when she is around, which is like almost all the time. Today was no different and she ended up doing most of the work.

English muffin dough

Following the instructions on the recipe, we mixed all the ingredients into a dough and let it rise for 1 hour or so. Then we rolled it out to about 0.5 inch thick. It was hard work kneading and rolling the dough. It was a warm day and there was no fan in the kitchen so we started sweating after a just a few minutes.

Shokudo Japanese Pasta & Pizza

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

After we left Ma Maison, my aunt and I went in hunt of desserts. We stumbled onto a restaurant called Shokudo Japanese Pasta & Pizza. The menu at the door showed various delicious-looking desserts so we decided to give it a try.

The restaurant was bright and had a casual feel, quite different from the atmosphere at Ma Maison. We did not order any of the cooked food but after peeking at other people’s orders, it seemed to be a substantial amount. Of course we would not know whether it tasted good or not.

KFC egg tarts

First thing we did after breakfast was to go to a nearby KFC and buy a box of egg tarts. There was a new flavour which was egg tart with purple sweet potato. So we bought a box containing all 3 flavours – original, with mochi and with purple sweet potato.
