Carl Jr’s thickburger

Thickburger

I bought Carl Jr’s thickburger for dinner. I’ve been skipping lunch for the past few days and thought that I had saved enough money to afford a small indulgence. So I went to buy the thickburger which I kept seeing in ads. I was curious about whether it will taste any difference from a normal burger. I ordered just the burger to takeaway. The burger cost $9.90, more expensive than I had expected. Luckily I did not order any sides or else it would cost more. When I was handed the brown paper bag containing my order, I felt a bit comforted that it felt heavy.

I ate the burger at home so I can make a mess without worrying about cleaning up later. It was about the size of my hand and the beef patty was thicker but not as thick as shown in the advertisement. The beef patty was a bit dry so I squeezed on some ketchup to make it more moist. Every bite felt like there was a lot of meat in my mouth so there’s definitely an increase in the amount of meat. Besides the beef patty, there’s the usual cheese, lettuce, onions and sauce. I felt quite full after finishing off the burger.

Another baby girl was born

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Pooh Bear gave birth this morning to a baby girl weighing 2.9 kg. Ha ha, it’s funny that just yesterday I was making fun at her for faking contractions so that she could skip work. Since she could answer me back, I deduced that she was alright. Who would know that at 10:33 am this morning Pooh Bear really gave birth? Little Pooh Bear 2 must be really eager to meet the world as she was around 2 weeks early.

Pencil sketch

Met up with some friends this morning to draw together. I did this pencil sketch in around 3 hours. Being the lazy person that I am, I didn’t bother to look for photos of motorbikes and just drew from memory until it feels about right. So it’s not an accurate rendering of a motorbike or even of a person riding a motorbike. Instead of doing a normal side view of the bike, which was difficult enough already, I tried to do a three-quarter view of it. I don’t know why I have a tendency to make things difficult for myself.

Sketch still looks a bit weird so I will need to do some more corrections before inking it. Eventually I hope it will become part of this picture I had in mind. Or maybe I will be too lazy to do anything else about it and this will be the last you will see of it.

Drona

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

I watched a Bollywood movie called Drona on Vasantham channel this afternoon. It sounded interesting and I like the female lead. After watching the movie, I felt it was okay. It’s the kind of story I liked, with magical mysterious places and clues leading to other clues before revealing the final treasure. Maybe because I grew up watching Hong Kong martial arts movie, some of the fighting scenes felt a little slow and engineered to me. Even though I felt that some parts of the story could be done better, none of them broke the movie for me. Except for one thing. I disliked the main character who was so serious and moody throughout the whole movie that he made the whole adventure boring.

Can draw or draw very well?

Friday, April 17th, 2009

I had a conversation with a colleague and she mentioned that someone told her that I “can draw very well”. She also used the words “talented” and “artist” to describe me. I went away at the end of the conversation feeling somewhat uncomfortable. It was not the first time someone used these or similar words when mentioning me. Each time I tried to downplay it as much as I can because I am not an “artist”, I am not “talented” nor can I “draw very well”. I don’t feel that I am any of those so I don’t like having such labels tagged to me. It gives people the wrong impression.

I never felt that drawing is an exclusive skill reserved for the talented few. Anyone can draw as well as me as long as they, like me, had training and practice. Yes, I can draw because I had the privilege of being taught how to draw before I even started school. The years of practice had honed my drawing skills, but I was taught to draw just the same as I was taught to write. It doesn’t mean that I am “talented”. I am not any more “talented” in drawing than I am in writing. Can draw is very different from “draw very well”.

I wished people won’t use terms like “talented” or “artist” on me because it’s not accurate to put me in the same category as those people who really are talented and artistic.

Team retreat

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

At the team retreat in the afternoon, we did a MBTI personality test. Most of us did one 5 years ago so it was interesting to see if any of us changed. Most of us didn’t. I’m still a ISFP and I suspect that I will probably remain one until the day I die.

One interesting that we found out was that all my teammates are also I except for one E. When we were told about the differences between I and E and how I would be annoyed by E, some of us burst out laughing because it is so true. All in all, it was pretty fun and we were all glad that there was no play acting.
